GUESSING WITH ONE WORD GAME AS A TECHNIQUE IN INCREASING STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT THE SECOND SEMESTER OF THE SEVENTH CLASS AT SMP NEGERI 24 BANDAR LAMPUNG IN 2015/2016

ABSTRAK

Teaching English is much influenced by various factor. One of them is choosing the suitable technique used for teaching learning process. The right technique is needed by the teacher in teaching English so that teaching learning process will run well. In this research the writer applied Guessing With One Word Game in teaching vocabulary in the classroom. Then the writer analyzed the result of the research in order to know its influence.

The research was conducted by using experimental method. The population of this research was the students at the second semester of the seventh class at SMP Negeri 24 Bandar Lampung consisting of 322 students in 9 classes. The sample of this research were two clases, the first class as the experimental class and the second class as control class. In taking the sample , the writer used random sampling technique. In data collecting technique, the writer used vocabulary testing form of multiple choice test consisted of 40 items test with four options.

After analyzing the data, the writer found that the average score of students’ vocabulary mastery in experimental class (78) was higher than the average score of students’ vocabulary mastery in control class (67.40). It means that, Guessing With One Word Game was successfully applied to increase students’ vocabulary mastery. Moreover, after counting the data by using ttest formula, the writer got the result of ttest was higher than ttable(4.62 > 1.67 > 2.39). Finally the writer concluded that there is a significant influence of Guessing With One Word Game as a technique in increasing students’ vocabulary mastery at the second semester of the seventh class at SMP Negeri 24 Bandar Lampung in 2015/2016.
